About me:

Me in action: delivering a Zoom workshop on Why We All Need Poetry for the Yorstory Festival in March 2021.

Copy-editing

I’m a freelance writer, editor and proofreader.

I work with all kinds of clients, ranging from small businesses to academics, poetry presses, arts organisations and others. I’m comfortable with all kinds of material, ranging from poetry to technical documents, white papers, dissertations, and funding applications.

I’ve been 100% freelance since 2011; before that, I worked across the range of communications in a variety of NGOs, writing and editing content for numerous different audiences.

Before that, I wrote and produced the Housing page — the most-read page — in Tower Hamlets Council’s weekly free paper, East End Life.

Get in touch if you want a copy-editor, proofreader, creative writing facilitator, have a question about my workshops, or are looking for some one-to-one help with your writing.

Workshops

I’m also a poet, essayist and blogger.

I run creative writing workshops with adults and children; my critical feedback poetry group has been running since 2009.

For a year I was the editor of Salt Publishing’s online literary magazine, Horizon Review, where I published a broad range of poetry, fiction and nonfiction.

I’ve worked in schools running sessions on poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction with kids down to year 7, and volunteered intensively for a year with Hackney Pirates, an after-school literacy club for years 4, 5 & 6.

Me

I’m a poet, blogger, book reviewer, essayist, freelance writer. See my Writing page for more information about this.

Born in New York City, I’ve lived in the UK since my teens, the vast majority of that time in London — and the vast majority of that time in Hackney.

I’m now based in Kent, still within easy reach of King’s Cross/St Pancras.

Some organisations I have worked with:

Baroque in Hackney is no longer.

But I’m back online, in A Room of Someone Else’s. Intermittent posts on arts, culture, politics, the odd funny story (I hope) and updates from the cosrt of living crisis.

“I'm a poet, essayist & blogger starting a new life after being forced from my home by rising rents. My book on homelessness, displacement & precarity will be published by CB Editions. In the meantime, here's where I'm writing about my new world.”

If you have experience of homelessness or precarity and would like to be on the paid email list, please let me know.
