I’m an editor, proofreader and writer.

Print and digital.

Technical and creative, nonfiction and fiction, prose and poetry.

White papers, dissertations, and funding applications.

Spanning creative and content editing, I’ve worked on prizewinning poetry collections as well as heat pump field trial reports, and written successful funding bids, blogs and annual reports. Community newspaper, EU policy reports, press releases on a range of topics, technical papers on sustainable energy and housing retrofits… even prizewinning poetry collections.

My freelance clients include small startups, national institutions, poets, academics, magazines and small presses.

A freelancer for 11 years, I’ve worked with all kinds of clients, ranging from small businesses to academics, poetry presses, arts organisations and others.

Before that, I worked for over a decade across the range of communications in a variety of NGOs.

For three years I wrote and produced the Housing page — the most-read page — in Tower Hamlets Council’s weekly free paper, East End Life.

In 2010-11 I was the editor of Salt Publishing’s online literary magazine, Horizon Review.

I’m also a poet, essayist and blogger. My first blog, Baroque in Hackney, was shortlisted for the George Orwell Prize in 2012.

After living in London for decades I’m now based in Kent, still within easy reach of King’s Cross/St Pancras.

Just drop me a line for a quote.

What they say:

“Katy made writing into a joy for me… She has the knack of editing while keeping the author’s personality absolutely intact, at least, that is what my ego would like to think. She is equally at home editing light weight public focused pieces or highly technical trade reports. She is also passionate about her work, and her enthusiasm to discuss and explore technical concepts led me to hang around the press office more than any other department in the Trust. I cannot recommend her highly enough”

—Steven Harris, Energy Saving Trust

“A sharp editorial eye”

—Adam Horovitz, Love and Other Fairy Tales

“A methodical, thorough and extremely competent editor, often juggling many projects at once. Katy never compromised the high quality of her work”

—Emma, National Consumer Council

“The best money I’ve ever spent on my writing!”

— David, private client

I’ve worked for:

Baroque in Hackney is no longer.

But I’m back online, in A Room of Someone Else’s. Intermittent posts on arts, culture, politics, the odd funny story (I hope) and updates from the cost of living crisis.

“I'm a poet, essayist & blogger starting a new life after being forced from my home by rising rents. My book on homelessness, displacement & precarity will be published by CB Editions. In the meantime, here's where I'm writing about my new world.”

If you have experience of homelessness or precarity and would like to be on the paid email list, please let me know.
